I support people to acknowledge and explore their experiences of grief and find new ways of relating to their life. Specialist grief and bereavement counsellor.

If you are experiencing grief and feel confused, stuck or overwhelmed, call me. I provide a non-judgemental and skilful space that is necessary for positive change. My role is to facilitate this with empathic listening and reflective inquiry. I guide people to create a healing pathway forward.

It can be helpful to seek out support early on with an experienced grief counsellor to increase your knowledge on what is usual and what might indicate additional intervention is needed. In the early period following a bereavement, I focus on supporting people to feel heard without judgement, providing psychoeducation about grief and coping. If grief becomes stuck or complicated, I provide an intensive treatment program.

Interventions provided aim to reduce stress and anxiety and address the effects of some types of traumatic experiences. Counselling provides a safe place to discuss experiences as well as develop more effective coping strategies. This may include reviewing past experiences that may be influencing current responses. As a team, we will develop alternative and helpful methods of responding.

While I specialise in bereavement counselling around end-of-life, I acknowledge that grief can also be experienced when life does not turn out as we had hoped or planned. This may involve loss of health, experience of trauma, and loss of relationships, including our companion animals. If you are seeking counselling for these matters, I am happy to discuss this with you.

What should I expect?

Counselling may be used to resolve or reduce the negative impacts of difficult experiences or problems. Sessions focus on exploring concerns, discussion of helpful strategies and assistance to implement new ideas.

Counselling is ideal at times of gradual or sudden changes in our life, such as

  • traumatic and sudden deaths
  • life-limiting illness
  • adjusting to bereavement
  • caring for a family member/friend
  • preparing for our own or someone else’s end-of-life
  • loss of an important relationship
  • grief related to the workplace

The main focus of my work with people is to understand what is occurring and the reasons for struggle. During our initial sessions, we delve into relevant life experiences and the ways of relating to one’s self that typically create distress. Most of the people I support describe significant improvement within in a few sessions and report they are feeling better and more positive about their life.

While I am trained in and draw on multiple modalities, my main focus is you and your story. Once you have felt heard, and we can define your goals, we then collaborate to create the path forward. This will often involve working with the felt senses to help manage our thoughts and responses. Developing insight into what holds you back, and how this can be changed, frees you to return to living.

At times I may suggest alternative support options for you. If indicated, we can discuss options at the time of your enquiry.

At present, this practice does not provide NDIS or autism specific services. Individuals with NDIS funding or ASD may benefit from seeking support from practitioners with dedicated expertise.

I am not able to provide court or other legal reports or assessments.
