Specialist grief and bereavement counsellor

Kate Jurgens PhD
Counselling Therapist
As a therapist with over 25 years experience, I assist people in finding ways to cope with difficult circumstances
My core focus is providing guidance on end-of-life concerns and help in adjusting to bereavement following someone’s death. This is inclusive of supporting people adjusting to the grief of perinatal and paediatric losses.
I also work with people who are experiencing a variety of other challenges, such as the end of a relationship, grief involving workplaces, and to address the effects of some traumas. I do this by listening, identifying troubling impacts, and through supporting people to reflect upon and understand their experiences. Helpful responses are discussed throughout the sessions.
Though grief can be a difficult experience for people, my work is incredibly satisfying, as everyday I have the privilege of supporting people to gain relief from troubling symptoms. Through commitment to applying helpful strategies, improving patience and self-compassion, people usually reclaim their sense of hope and strength from our work together.
I am committed to providing people with the support they need
- Loss of life grief and bereavement
- End-of-Life concerns
- Sudden and traumatic losses
- Loss of important relationships
- Workplace grief and stress
- Generalised anxiety

English is my only spoken language.
My Methodology
I focus on providing a safe and confidential space with an attitude of being non-judgemental and seeing each person as an individual. The aim of sessions is to understand your needs and to explore helpful techniques to feel healthier and happier. By having conversations with a purpose, examining options and providing guidance, I assist people to move forward in ways that feel right for them.
My approach is to walk alongside people as they find their way through difficult and life changing experiences. I know from personal experience that when we are challenged by difficult circumstances it can seem like no one really understands. Consequently, we may feel misunderstood and isolated. This can lead to loss of motivation or our sense of purpose in life. The right type of therapeutic support is beneficial when we are ready to reclaim a life that feels worthwhile.
